From model to rugby….how Chloe explored and discovered a brand new passion at the University of Notre Dame.

Within the first few weeks of my freshman year of college, my school hosted an Activities Fair where various clubs and teams set up tables to recruit new members. One of the girls I was talking around the fair kept begging me try it out with her, but I was very hesitant since I did not know the first thing about Rugby— I actually just wanted to try out for the cheerleading team. However, I was eventually convinced and attended their Rookie Day where I picked up on it pretty naturally and immediately fell in love with the sport and team dynamics. I have always been athletic and played various sports throughout my life, but nothing ever came close to a full-tackle sport. Rugby has taught me many invaluable lessons that have proved to be applicable in my life, both on and off the field, and that is what got me hooked to the sport.

What made you want to try out for the team?

When I first went out for the team, I did not have a single clue of what Rugby was all about, but the people on my team were so patient with teaching me that it was hard to get discouraged or feel like I wanted to give up. There was this undeniable passion in each of their eyes when they spoke about Rugby, and from there it ignited something in me that made me want to keep working hard at learning the sport so that I could feel, see, and play the way that they were. Throughout the past three years on the team I’ve tried to exemplify the same characteristics of the team that I fell in love with, and, ultimately, I was voted to be our backline Captain for this upcoming fall season.

What are you studying at Saint Mary’s?

I am majoring in Business Administration, with concentrations in Marketing and Management, and minoring in Sociology. When I first entered college, I had no idea what direction I wanted to take my life in. Attending a liberal arts college, I had the opportunity to take a number of classes in various subjects that helped me target my interests and disinterests. This ultimately led me to discover my passion for wedding and event planning, and I now plan on using my Business background to start my own company one day.

What are your plans after graduation?

After I graduate next spring, I plan to go right into wedding and event planning. I have always lived in Indiana, so I am hoping to move somewhere south to pursue this career.
